Our bookshelf will be smaller than we think

If you are not in love with reading books, you won’t understand this post.

If you are in love with reading books, I’ve got bad news for you. The news is that your bookshelf will be smaller than you think.

Let's do some maths. How many books do you read a month? It doesn’t need to be precise, just take an average number. Now, multiply that number by 12. That’s how many books you can read in a year. And now multiply that number by the number of years you think are left in your life. Again, it doesn’t need to be precise. Just take a rough guess.

Now, just sit and let the final number sink into your psyche. That’s the maximum number of books you can read.

When I did the math for myself, the smallness of the number almost frightened me at first. But once the feeling settled, I took it as a call to action.

Let’s not waste time overthinking or procrastinating more than we need to. Let’s not waste time on bad habits or bad people. A few minutes saved here, a few minutes saved there, and we might add another book to our read list.
